Hidden In Plain Sight: Sharing Their Life Journey to Shine a Light On Modern Day Slavery

Survivors will share their personal journeys to educate and bring awareness on the issue of human trafficking.

Rebecca Cary is a survivor and the Founder of Hands of Justice, Consultant, Speaker, Educator, and Overcomer Leader. She is a recent graduate of Sam Houston State University with a Masters in Victims Studies. She holds the Co-Chair and Survivor position on the board of the Montgomery County Coalition Against Human Trafficking and served on the Survivor Leader Council for the state of Texas for 2 years. She was featured in a PSA, as well as a short film, for the new Goya Care initiative, appeared on NBC, and has also been an endorser for the “Can you See Me” campaign, led by A21 in various cities throughout Texas. In May of 2022, she published her first book, When Silence Ends, which features Overcomer stories from across the United States. As of July 2022, Rebecca opened up an Economic Empowerment and Resource center for Survivors of Human Trafficking in Conroe, Texas. This is a first of it’s kind within the tri state area of Texas.

Gina Dvorak would like to invite you to share her experience as a survivor of familial sex trafficking and CSEC (Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children). Gina uses her experience as a platform to bring hope, encouragement, and education to others. She is passionate about informing others regarding the dangers, signs and misperceptions society may have about sex trafficking. Gina’s compassion for others is evident in her communication skills, as she invites the listener into the world she knew as a child.

Gina is a survivor leader who advocates for peer counseling and support. She accomplishes this through leading support group, mentoring other survivors, and offering pastoral counseling to those in need. Gina has dedicated her time to helping survivors of various forms of trauma for over 20 years, and believes that no matter what one has endured, there is always an opportunity for healing and growth. She hopes that sharing her own difficult childhood will bring hope and encouragement to others who have also suffered greatly, and that education will be an avenue for prevention.

Gina volunteers for several community agencies, is an ambassador for GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services), is a facilitator for trauma healing with The Trauma Healing Institute, served as Director of a local non-profit agency for many years, and is an ordained pastor. Gina is the former director of a survivor advocacy group in the state of South Dakota.

Gina resides in Rapid City with her husband of 37 years and enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mary Jackson is a speaker, educator, and advocator for those victimized by human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual exploitation. She shares her own personal journey as a survivor of cartel trafficking. Her main goal is to educate, lending insight into what human trafficking looks like and sharing the vulnerability and criminality behind the crime. As a coauthor of the book A Parent’s Guide to Understanding Human Trafficking, she has turned her suffering and pain into victory over this horrific crime, sharing her own struggles. Mary began serving at Call to Freedom in 2016 as a volunteer, joined the Board of Directors in 2020, and currently works full time supporting clients and educating. Through her work as the Survivor Service and Program Coordinator with Call to Freedom, she contributes vital expertise into survivor supportive services.
