IOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A kidnapping on Wednesday started as a conversation on social media. Now, a 20-year-old is behind bars, accused of posing as a teenager and kidnapping and assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
Social media is nearly unavoidable for teenagers today. But as technology evolves, teens gain more access to dangerous people and content online.
“If you’re not friends in real life, you’re not friends online,” said Call to Freedom‘s director of impact and program relations, Rachel Foltz. “And I think that that simple piece of advice goes a long way that, you know, traffickers, bad actors of all kinds really, know how to exploit the trust and vulnerability of young people in digital spaces.”
